NSW eSafety Check (Pink Slip) Inspection Overview
If your vehicle is more than 5 years old and registered in New South Wales, you'll need an annual eSafety Check, commonly known as a Pink Slip, to renew your registration. This inspection ensures your vehicle is roadworthy and meets all safety standards required by law.
What's Inspected During an eSafety Check?
Brakes
- Condition of brake pads, rotors, and calipers
- Brake fluid levels and performance
- Handbrake/parking brake functionality
Tyres & Wheels
- Tread depth (minimum 1.5mm)
- Tyre condition (cracks, bulges, wear)
- Correct tyre type and matching sets
- Wheel condition and security
Steering & Suspension
- Steering rack and components
- Shock absorbers and struts
- Suspension bushings and linkages
Lights & Electrical
- Headlights (high and low beam)
- Indicators and brake lights
- Reverse lights and hazard lights
- Horn, dashboard warning lights, and battery condition
Windscreen & Windows
- Windscreen damage (chips, cracks in driver's view)
- Operation of windscreen wipers and washers
- Window tinting compliance
Body & Chassis
- Rust or damage that affects structural integrity
- Secure bumpers, panels, and underbody components
Seats & Seatbelts
- Proper function and secure mounting of seats
- Seatbelts condition, retraction, and locking function
Exhaust System
- No excessive noise or visible smoke
- Proper mounting and no leaks
Engine & Fluid Leaks
- Check for visible oil, coolant, or fuel leaks
- Engine mount security and general condition
Registration Plate & VIN
- Clear and legible number plates
- Visible and matching VIN/chassis number
Electronic Lodgement to Transport for NSW
Once your vehicle passes, the inspection is electronically submitted to Transport for NSW, so you can renew your registration online with ease. If repairs are needed, you'll have 14 days to fix the issues and get a free reinspection.
